About Me!

Image of Andrea Juarez

Hi, I’m Andrea Juarez, a first-generation, bilingual, and bicultural Latina therapist dedicated to creating a safe, compassionate, and culturally-affirming space for healing. As the daughter of Salvadorean and Nicaraguan immigrants, I deeply understand what it means to navigate multiple identities, expectations, and worlds at once.

My clinical work is grounded in meeting clients exactly where they are—with openness, humility, and genuine respect for each person’s lived experience. I practice through a culturally-informed and trauma-informed lens, honoring the complexities of identity, migration stories, generational narratives, and the unique pressures faced by first-gen individuals, high-stress professionals, and trauma survivors.

As the eldest daughter in an immigrant household I understand the pressures and responsibilities that come with carrying it all. I specialize in supporting adult individuals ages 18+ navigating complex family dynamics, family of origin trauma, depression, anxiety, identity exploration, first-generation experience, trauma and high stress working professionals.

I hold a Bachelors degree in Social Work from York University in Toronto, Ontario Canada and a Masters degree in Social Work from The University of Utah in Salt Lake City. Originally from Toronto Canada I now reside in North Carolina with my husband and our dog. I enjoy reading Romantasy, riding bikes with my dog and doing a Peloton ride.

I am trained in EMDR, Brainspotting, and IFS-informed therapy, and I also work from a Feminist Multicultural framework. These approaches allow me to support clients in accessing deep healing, releasing stored trauma, reconnecting with their inner resources,
and stepping into a more empowered and aligned version of themselves.

At Starlight Counseling & Wellness, my goal is to walk alongside you to hold space for your story, your grief, your growth, and
your brilliance, as you navigate healing and rediscover your own inner light.

My Approach

EMDR

(Eye Movement Desensitization
and Reprocessing)

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing is a trauma-informed approach that helps your brain process difficult or overwhelming experiences so they no longer feel as emotionally intense. Instead of having to retell your story in detail, we use guided eye movements or tapping to help your brain reprocess the memory in a safer, calmer way.

Brainspotting

Brainspotting is a gentle therapy approach that helps you access and heal the deeper emotional and physical places where stress, trauma, or difficult experiences can get “stuck.” During a session, we use your eye position—your “brainspot”—to help your brain and body naturally process what’s been overwhelming. You don’t have to retell your whole story. Instead, we slow down, notice what’s happening inside, and let your nervous system lead the way toward release and relief.

FMT

(Feminist Multicultural Therapy)

Feminist Multicultural Therapy is an approach that understands that your identity, culture, and lived experiences all shape your mental health. It looks at how factors like gender, race, culture, family roles, immigration experiences, and societal expectations impact your wellbeing. In this approach, therapy is a collaborative relationship. You are the expert of your life, and together we explore your experiences with respect, curiosity, and empowerment.

IFS-Informed Therapy

IFS-informed therapy (Internal Family Systems) is a compassionate approach that understands we all have different “parts” within us, like the anxious part, the protective part, the overwhelmed part, or the part that wants to move forward. These parts aren’t bad or broken; they developed to help you cope, protect yourself, and get through life. In therapy, we gently get to know these parts with curiosity rather than judgment. As we build understanding and compassion for them, they begin to relax, work together, and heal. This helps you feel more grounded, confident, and connected to your true self—the calm, wise center inside of you.
